🏠 Drury Hotels Company, LLC opened the Drury Plaza Hotel Chattanooga Hamilton Place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, marking their first in the city and fifth in Tennessee. The hotel features 210 guestrooms and suites, over 2,500 square feet of meeting space, and is the third company opening in 2024. Located off I-75, it's 4 miles from Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport and offers amenities like hot breakfast, dinnertime snacks, WiFi, and parking. Their Meetings with More program provides WiFi in meeting rooms and flexible cancellation policies for events with up to 360 attendees.

Griffin Hotel Management Merges Into Meyer Jabara Hotels

🏨 Griffin Hotel Management LLC has merged into Meyer Jabara Hotels (MJH), adding 14 assets to MJH's portfolio. With additional deals, MJH is expected to manage 50 hotels by Q1 2025. Griffin's CEO James Kirkland becomes MJH's SVP of Operations – Western region, while majority owner Jay Fishman assumes a business development role. The merger expands MJH's Western footprint with properties in Texas, Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico, Minnesota, and Michigan and introduces new capital partners. Kirkland has opened over 30 U.S. properties during his career, and Fishman has managed over 40 hotel transactions.

Marriott International Reports Q3 2024 Results

📈 Marriott International reported Q3 2024 results with a worldwide RevPAR increase of 3%, 2.1% in the United States and Canada, and 5.4% in international markets. Q3 reported diluted EPS was $2.07, down from $2.51 in Q3 2023. Net income decreased to $584 million from $752 million year-over-year. Adjusted EBITDA reached $1,229 million, up from $1,142 million. Approximately 16,000 net rooms were added, bringing the development pipeline to around 3,800 properties and 585,000 rooms, with over 220,000 rooms under construction. Marriott repurchased 4.5 million shares for $1.0 billion in Q3 and expects to return $4.4 billion to shareholders in 2024.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation Reports Q3 2024 Results

💰 In Q3 2024, Hyatt Hotels Corporation saw a 3.0% increase in system-wide hotels RevPAR and 4.3% net rooms growth, but a 0.9% decrease in all-inclusive resorts Net Package RevPAR compared to Q3 2023. The company reported a net income of $471 million, an adjusted net income of $96 million, and an adjusted EBITDA of $275 million. Hyatt repurchased 4.5 million shares for $657 million and projects full-year net income between $1,400 million and $1,450 million with an adjusted EBITDA of $1,100 million to $1,120 million. Total liquidity stood at approximately $2.6 billion as of September 30, 2024, with a pipeline of 135,000 rooms. The company also declared a $0.15 per share dividend, payable on December 6, 2024, to stockholders of record as of November 22, 2024.

Motel 6: Travelers Are More Likely to Drive Rather Than Fly for the Holidays

🚘 In the U.S., over half of the travelers (51%) prefer driving to their winter holiday destinations, up 2% from last year. Most are motivated by proximity (46%) and cost savings (26%), with 80% finding road trips more enjoyable. A majority choose familiar places over new explorations (63%), visiting family (50%) and using paid time off (54%) for quality time. Accommodations often include staying with family (52%) or friends (14%), yet 25% will opt for hotels or motels to avoid uncomfortable sleeping arrangements. Travelers plan trips three weeks in advance on average, with 23% not booking ahead and 64% stressed by last-minute plans.

Lodging Econometrics: U.S. Hotel Construction Pipeline Reaches New All-Time High

🏗️ In Q3 2024, U.S. hotel construction pipeline reached an all-time high with 6,211 projects/722,821 rooms, up 9% in projects and 7% in rooms YOY. Under construction: 1,185 projects/148,716 rooms, a YOY increase of 11% in projects and 6% in rooms. Scheduled starts: 2,209 projects/251,797 rooms. Early planning also hit records with 2,817 projects/322,308 rooms, both up 17% YOY. Upper midscale and upscale projects compose 60% of the pipeline. Construction starts peaked in 2024. New openings for 2024 are projected at 631 hotels/72,160 rooms, a 1.3% supply increase, with 759 new hotels/86,264 rooms expected in 2025, and 938 new hotels/101,017 rooms in 2026, increasing supply by 1.5% and 1.8%, respectively.

CoStar: U.S. Hotel Industry Continues to Post Positive Year-Over-Year Comparisons

🔔 U.S. hotel industry saw positive gains in October 2024 compared to 2023 with occupancy up by 4.5% at 69.0%, Average Daily Rate (ADR) rising 4.6% to $168.69, and Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) increasing 9.3% to $116.32. Tampa experienced the largest occupancy increase of 28.1%, reaching 84.2% due to Hurricane Milton. New Orleans led in ADR and RevPAR growth, surging 64.1% to $301.30 and 77.6% to $227.24, respectively, propelled by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Conversely, Las Vegas and Minneapolis saw RevPAR drops of 7.9% to $196.40 and 6.5% to $86.31, respectively.
