Marriott and MGM to Convert Las Vegas Strip Property to W Hotels Brand

🎰 Marriott International, Inc. and MGM Resorts International announced a licensing agreement in July 2023 to convert a Las Vegas Strip property into W Las Vegas, set to join the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio later this year. The collaboration has resulted in hundreds of thousands of room nights booked since launching in March 2024. Over 200 million Marriott Bonvoy members gain access to MGM Resorts' destinations, while MGM Rewards members can enjoy benefits at Marriott's 9,000 properties. W Las Vegas will be part of 12 MGM Collection destinations on the Las Vegas Strip.

Loews Plans Third Hotel Opening for Universal Epic Universe

🌆 Loews Hotels & Co announces the opening of Universal Helios Grand Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort for May 22, 2025, with reservations starting October 22, 2023. Joining two other hotels, Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort, the Orlando portfolio will reach 11 hotels and 11,000 guestrooms. The Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a 500-room property, offers park views and a dedicated entrance to Epic Universe. Earlier in 2023, Loews opened a $550 million, 888-room hotel in Arlington, Texas, highlighting the company's growth beyond Orlando.

IHG Signs Four New Garner Properties in Europe and the United Kingdom

🏨 IHG Hotels & Resorts signed four new Garner properties across the UK and Europe, expanding since Garner's launch in August 2023. In the first half of 2024, 76 properties were signed globally, with 58 in Europe, representing 41% of openings and 55% of signings. The UK will see the 53-room Garner Hotel Reading Centre and the 80-room Garner Hotel Preston Samlesbury open late 2024. In Germany, over 50 hotels will convert from NOVUM Hospitality brands, while Austria and the Netherlands will each welcome a new Garner property. Turkey's entry with a 126-room Istanbul hotel is set for 2025. In total, 79 Garner properties have been signed, including in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Turkey, with four already operational.

CoStar: Holiday Calendar Shift Boosts U.S. Hotel Performance

📦 In the U.S. hotel industry, occupancy rose to 70.3% (up 2.4%), ADR increased to $166.88 (up 1.4%), and RevPAR jumped to $117.28 (up 3.8%) year-over-year for the week of October 6-12, 2024. New Orleans led with occupancy up 20.1% to 75.6%, ADR up 13.1% to $194.70, and RevPAR up 35.9% to $147.18, boosted by the Water Environment Federation’s event. Atlanta's occupancy and RevPAR rose 15.6% and 20.6% due to Hurricane Milton. Oahu Island and Tampa saw RevPAR declines of 10.3% and 9.8% due to the same hurricane.

Booking.com Reports Conventional Travel to Be Redefined in 2025

Noctourism rises with 62% considering darker sky destinations, and 54% aiming for cooler night-time activities due to climate concerns. Longevity retreats attract 60% of travelers, with 58% willing to pay for lifespan-extending vacations. AI will curate personalized trips for 66% of tourists. Multigenerational travel is funded by 46% of travelers spending their children's inheritance, with 80% of Boomers paying for family trips. Men-only vacations focus on wellbeing, with 47% support. Boomers seek adventure, with 23% desiring thrill-seeking holidays. Neurodiverse travel demands are increasing, with 66% desiring AI tools for comfort. Vintage voyaging grows as 51% opt for thrifty, sustainable wardrobes abroad. Airport experiences are vital, with 34% selecting destinations based on airport facilities, and 60% preferring diverse pre-flight amenities.
