The hotel GM was informed but didn't investigate thoroughly, resulting in a lawsuit where the hotel-owning company was the primary defendant due to the legal doctrine of respondeat superior. In a separate incident at a 5-star North African hotel, an American guest fell down a non-code-compliant stairway, suffering permanent paralysis. Employees incorrectly moved him, exacerbating the injury. The hotel's lack of reasonable care and inadequate employee first-aid training were seen as the proximate cause of the severe injuries.
