Los Angeles airport restaurant workers will soon be making $30 an hour

🏗 The Los Angeles City Council voted to increase the hourly minimum wage for tourism workers to $30 by 2028, starting with $22.50 in 2025. This legislation, inspired by upcoming events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Summer Olympics, also includes a $8.35 weekly healthcare plan. Current wages for airport and hotel workers are $18.78 and $19.73, respectively. Critics worry the increase may harm the industry's recovery post-pandemic.

Aqua New York is a two-in-one restaurant, serving Italian and Japanese menus under the same roof

🍴 Aqua New York, offering Italian and Japanese cuisines, opened on November 11 in Manhattan's Flatiron District. Occupying a 24,000-square-foot space, the venue seats 432 guests, includes three 10-person private dining rooms, a private lounge with DJ station, and claims the city's longest sushi bar with 22 seats. Aqua Spirit, the 44-seat bar, features sakes, wines, and country-inspired cocktails. This is the third U.S. establishment by Aqua Restaurant Group, following locations in New York and Miami.

Radisson Collection makes South African debut with Cape Town hotel

🏖 Radisson Hotel Group introduced Radisson Collection brand in South Africa at the former Radisson Blu in Cape Town. The hotel, featuring 175 rooms and suites, was extensively renovated, boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, a restaurant, bar, terrace, and a new café. A refurbishment of the restaurant is planned for July 2025. The property includes an infinity pool, fitness and wellness center, art gallery, and event rooms for up to 350 guests. Radisson Hotel Group has over 1,430 hotels worldwide.

Hyatt to open over 50 luxury and lifestyle hotels by 2026

🏡 Hyatt Hotels Corp. plans to open over 50 luxury and lifestyle hotels worldwide by 2026, with a strong focus on luxury travel that is projected to see a 52.8% increase in Europe's hotel stock by 2028. Approximately 70% of Hyatt's global rooms are in luxury and upper upscale categories, having doubled its luxury room count since 2017. The lifestyle sector is expanding, with Hyatt quintupling its lifestyle rooms since 2017 and adding 28 hotels in 2024. Notable future openings include Miraval, The Red Sea in late 2025, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Park Hyatt Johannesburg, Andaz Miami Beach, and Andaz Gold Coast. Hyatt has acquired Standard International, which will enhance its Lifestyle portfolio with brands like Andaz and Thompson Hotels, and has a Luxury portfolio with brands such as Park Hyatt and Miraval.
