SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia signs first Japan property

🏨 SONO Hotels & Resorts Asia signed its first hotel in Japan, the 130-room SONO Moon Nagoya, near Nagoya Station. Formerly Compass Hotel Nagoya, it's owned by ESCON JAPAN REIT and leased by Polaris Holdings. This venture expands SONO's portfolio, which includes 16 hotels in Thailand and Indonesia, and over 14,500 rooms globally. The strategic location aims to attract travelers, capitalizing on upcoming events like the Asian Games in September.

President and COO appointed at Obie Hospitality

🏨 Obie Companies has promoted Curt Asmussen to president and COO of Obie Hospitality. Asmussen, who was vice president for five years and managing director at Obie's Inn in Boise, has worked in hospitality for two decades. Relocating to Eugene, he will lead growth through acquisition and development, including the new Residence Inn Boise Downtown/University and the 75-room Gordon Hotel Corvallis opening in spring 2027. This role centralizes expansion efforts.

More than 1,500 hotels in development across Europe

🏨 Europe, Q4 2025: Lodging Econometrics reports 1,717 hotel projects with 252,600 rooms in development. Of these, 754 are under construction, 588 in early planning, and 375 near groundbreaking. Notably, 700 hotels are undergoing renovations, affecting 90,066 rooms. The UK leads with 274 projects, and London tops cities with 76 developments. Upscale and upper midscale projects dominate, with openings expected to rise from 255 in 2025 to 320 by 2027.
