🛒 Walmart, December 2025: Restricted AI agents can explain policies and show store info, but can't perform transactions or make decisions. Unlike Amazon, Walmart doesn't block them outright. Only 1% of websites use the rare "llms.txt" file format, created to help AI use sites. Walmart's recent "llms.txt" was deleted after partnering with ChatGPT, aiming to prevent unauthorized bots.

Shopify stores are now live on ChatGPT. Only Glossier, SKIMS, and Spanx for now but I expect this will ramp up very quickly. The black Buy button is new – it allows buying without leaving ChatGPT… | Juozas Kaziukėnas

🛒 Shopify stores, including Glossier, SKIMS, and Spanx, are now live on ChatGPT. Users can make purchases via a new black Buy button without leaving the platform. This feature was announced nearly two months ago alongside an Etsy integration and briefly tested three weeks ago. Currently, there is no support for Shop Pay or Afterpay installment payments. While functional, issues such as incorrect product categorization and missing discount information persist. Glossier faces challenges with customer retargeting and marketing communication restrictions.

🛒 OpenAI's Instant Checkout, launched in October 2025, enables over 1 million Shopify merchant purchases (e.g., Glossier, Skims, Spanx, Vuori) directly within ChatGPT, revolutionizing e-commerce. This frictionless process eliminates redirects and abandoned carts, offering AI-powered discovery and conversational commerce. Users can describe needs, and ChatGPT suggests and completes purchases. This could redefine e-commerce, challenging platforms like Amazon by merging AI assistance with shopping in a seamless experience.

ChatGPT checkout is for boring and expensive buys. Things that need research to figure out what to buy. I don't think it works for expensive and fun items like fashion or sport because that needs… | Juozas Kaziukėnas

🛒 ChatGPT shopping: optimal for research-heavy, expensive purchases requiring decision-making. ⚡️ Impulse buys suit TikTok Shop for fun, cheap items, while Amazon excels in boring, cheap products. 📈 Etsy, known for fun items, doesn't align with text-only shopping. 📸 Visuals are crucial for engaging purchases; Amazon and Walmart excel in automating mundane buys. 🛍️ AI tools may tackle expensive, fun categories like fashion, but limitations in ChatGPT's current format make it less universal for shopping needs.

OpenAI just announced that shoppers can checkout in-app from Etsy and Shopify merchants. It is exactly the integration we knew was in the works. This is not agentic commerce – people still need to… | Juozas Kaziukėnas

🛒 OpenAI now offers in-app checkout for Etsy and Shopify merchants, announced in September 2025. Shoppers can complete purchases through ChatGPT, though interactions remain non-agentic, requiring user decisions. Merchants incur a small fee on completed purchases, but the service remains free for users and does not influence product prices. ChatGPT's integration excludes major retailers like Amazon and Walmart, focusing on smaller platforms. The model might adapt to include ads or sponsored listings in the future.
