Philip Warren transforms its former butchers shop site into a burger joint

🍔 Native Burger, led by Luke Taylor, opened on 30 July in Cornwall, offering a 20-seat venue with a menu of nine burgers. The Westgate Street location, previously a butcher's shop run by Philip Warren, now showcases Warren's exclusively grass-fed meats. Menu highlights include the Twisted Fire Starter, The Workout, and Tequila Slammer burgers, along with fries topped with bacon bits, cheese, and pulled beef. Native Burger aims to contribute to Launceston's social revival.

Parogon Group reports sales increase as it looks to speed up expansion

💰 Midlands-based Parogon Group reports a 10.9% increase in total sales to £24m for the year ending 30 June 2024, with like-for-like sales up 3.5%. EBITDA rose to £1.9m from £0.7m, and site-level profits went up by £1.2m to £4.6m, thanks to £3.1m in capital investment. The group, operating venues such as The Swan With Two Necks and The Orange Tree, is expanding its Willow brand, with the Trentham site's covers growing by 3.6%. A new Willow Telford site is due to open in September.

Mike Robinson partners with Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden duo for new restaurant

🍕 Cattivo, a 40-cover restaurant with outdoor terrace seating, located at The Old Kennels, Cirencester Park, is set to open on August 2. Mike Robinson, known for Michelin-starred The Harwood Arms and other ventures, collaborates with Baggott and Lawson-King of Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden. Menu features six 12-inch Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas priced at £14-£17, using local ingredients like honey from Robinson’s hives, Matthews Cotswold Flour, and drinks that include two in-house cocktails, Italian wines, and local beers.

Cow & Sow heads to Birmingham for third site

🍖 Cow & Sow, a contemporary dining steakhouse brand, is set to open its third location at One Chamberlain Square in Birmingham's Paradise development in late 2024. Founded by Mark Warburton in January 2022, the brand quickly expanded with a second site launched in December 2022. The menu features 35-day aged steaks with prices ranging from £21 to £32, small plates starting at £6, and an express lunch menu at £14 for one course and £22 for three courses. Warburton aims to work with local charities and businesses upon opening.

ThinK Wine introduces 200ml prosecco cans with 1g sugar, both organic and vegan, targeting street markets. Real unveils Peony Blush in 250ml cans, a non-alcoholic alternative to sparkling rosé. Disaronno International UK’s Rump@blic offers global rum varieties at 41.5%-43% abv. Mikolasch vodka, founded in 1842 in Ukraine, returns with organic corn and grain vodkas. Ben Lomond Gin introduces a non-alcoholic spirit at 0.5% abv for £22 online. Lonkero launches a Finnish 5.5% abv gin-based 'long drink' in the UK. Eden Mill releases Art of St Andrews 2024 whisky, with amarone and sherry cask maturation. PALMARÁE Gin, at 44% abv and £65, features north African botanicals. Beavertown offers Lunar Melon, a 4.5% abv hazy IPA in cans for £2, or cases of 12 and 24 for £23 and £43.

🍴 John and Desiree Chantarasak to open AngloThai with MJMK Restaurants in Marylebone, London, in autumn. The 50-cover venue will offer Thai-British cuisine, sourcing ingredients from the British Isles, and serve biodynamic European wines. The menu will be seasonal with a la carte dishes, daily chef selections, and British-grown Asian produce. The restaurant features a private dining room, Baan, set to open later. AngloThai's Fitzrovia location deal fell through in 2021 after plans were announced. Opening now set for October.

Pasta Evangelists begins franchise rollout with two London sites

🍝 Pasta Emporium's first location opened on 25 July in Richmond, with a partnership between AMSRIC and Pasta Evangelists. A second venue is slated to launch in Greenwich. These locations offer fresh, hand-made pasta shapes, with dine-in and takeout options via digital screens or counters. Menu items include lobster tortellini, truffle mac'n'cheese, and a variety of antipasti, Italian desserts, and gelato. Features include self-pour wine machines, weekly free wine tastings, and kids' pasta-making sessions. The first Pasta Evangelists restaurant opened in May 2021 at Harrods Dining Hall, and the company was acquired by the Barilla Group in 2021.
