How Rachel’s Kitchen perfected healthy fast-casual before it was cool

🍞 Rachel's Kitchen, a healthy all-day café in Las Vegas, was created 18 years ago, preceding chains like Cava and Sweetgreen. Founded by Debbie Roxarzade, who started her career in Los Angeles, the brand now has nine units. Roxarzade opened the original 1,000-square-foot Rachel's Kitchen in 2006 in Summerlin, outside of Las Vegas. After a challenging start and recession delays, the first franchised location opened in 2010. Expansion continues with a recent grand opening in Frisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, aiming for at least five Dallas-area locations in the coming years. The company seeks franchisees committed to community work.

Choice Hotels celebrates 500th extended stay hotel opening

🏨 Choice Hotels International celebrated the opening of its 500th extended stay hotel, Everhome Suites, in Glendale, Arizona—a region experiencing high growth. This Everhome Suites offers 122 rooms with amenities like fully equipped kitchens, spa-style bathrooms, and a fitness center. Choice boasts the fastest-growing economy extended stay portfolio, with over 350 hotels planned, and leads the new-build category according to STR’s August Pipeline Data. President and CEO Patrick Pacious highlights the milestone as evidence of Choice's industry expertise. The company currently operates six Everhome Suites in the US with over 65 in the pipeline, planning to open more than 15 in the next year. Choice opened 13 MainStay Suites and Suburban Studios in key markets such as Las Vegas and Orlando between January 1 and September. Their total portfolio includes approximately 7,500 hotels with 630,000 rooms across 45 countries.

Neri&Hu creates “urban oasis” for Artyzen New Bund 31 hotel in Shanghai

🏨 Neri&Hu completed the Artyzen New Bund 31 hotel in Shanghai's Pudong District, part of the Qiantan development, which includes an office tower and shopping centre. The hotel features 202 guest rooms, direct connection to the New Bund Performing Arts Centre, and a scallop-shaped concrete facade. Amenities like reception, lounges, and gardens are located on the fifth floor. The guest rooms' design is inspired by traditional Chinese gardens, with a color palette to match. Neri&Hu, founded in 2006, also recently completed a residential block in Taiwan.

Houston restaurateurs open Milton’s, an Italian-American trattoria in Rice Village

🍕 Milton’s, an Italian-American trattoria, opened on September 27 in Houston’s Rice Village, founded by Benjy Levit and Seth Siegel-Gardner. Located above Local Foods, the venue was previously Eau Tour, launched in spring 2023. The redesigned 2,000-square-foot space features a bar seating 11 and a dining room for 60 guests, with an enclosed patio for private dining. The menu highlights housemade pastas and a signature 100-layer lasagna. A revamp of the adjacent Lee’s Den bar is expected in winter, and a new project with Rice University involving The Brochstein Pavilion is set to debut in the fall.

Briefs: Few & Far unveils inaugural safari lodge; Capella’s luxury homes in South Korea

🐅 Sarah and Jacob Dusek, founders of Under Canvas, plan to open Few & Far Luvhondo, a new eco-lodge in Limpopo, South Africa, by early 2025. Located in the Soutpansberg Mountains within the UNESCO Vhembe Biosphere Reserve, the lodge will feature six suites, a cable car system, and a solar-powered 40-kilometer safari. Capella Hotel Group will introduce Capella Residences Seoul in Gangnam's Seocho-gu by 2027, marking their entry into Seoul. Davidson Hospitality Group joins Alliance for Hospitality Equity & Diversity (AHED) with Crystal Beasley on the board, focusing on diversity internships and scholarships. Extended Stay America opens a new 124-room hotel, the Extended Stay America Premier Suites Belgrade- Bozeman- Yellowstone Airport, in Belgrade, Montana, managed by Hotel Management & Consulting.

IHG expands Italian portfolio with two new Six Senses signings

🏡 Six Senses partners with Gruppo Statuto to open Six Senses Milan and Six Senses Lake Como, adding to Italy's portfolio following Six Senses Rome (2023) and the upcoming Six Senses Antognolla in Umbria. Six Senses Milan, located in the Brera quarter at Via Brera 19, will feature 68 rooms, including 15 suites and two with plunge pools, a restaurant, deli, spa, rooftop bar, and sky pool, set to open in 2025. Six Senses Lake Como, a transformation of the former Grand Hotel Cadenabbia, will have 102 rooms and suites, a spa, floating lake pool, and restaurants, expected to debut in 2028. These join IHG's expanded luxury presence in Italy, now totaling 30 open and eight developing hotels.

Studio Collective completes The Hotel at The Moore in Miami Design District

🏨 Studio Collective recently opened The Hotel at The Moore in Miami Design District, featuring 13 unique suites on the building's fourth floor, ranging from 700 to 1,000 square feet. The Moore building, completed in 1921, also houses the Elastika restaurant with a Zaha Hadid sculpture since 2005, and a private members club offering various themed dining rooms and lounges. The district continues to evolve with new architecture and boutiques.

Briefs: Minor debuts NH Hotels in Bangkok; Pullman steps into Croatia

Pullman Hotels & Resorts launches Pullman Zagreb in Croatia with 193 rooms, targeting business travelers. Peachtree Group's credit team has hit over $1 billion in loan originations year-to-date, with hotels being the largest sector at $639 million, a 176% increase from 2023. Waterford Hotel Group now manages Killington Mountain Lodge in Vermont, adding to its 100+ U.S. properties.

IHG grows Garner’s Europe footprint with four new signings

🏨 IHG Hotels & Resorts' midscale brand Garner, launched in August 2023, signed four new hotels in Europe, targeting 500 U.S. hotels in 10 years. Garner has 79 properties signed and four open. Garner Hotel Reading Centre and Garner Hotel Preston Samlesbury in the UK will open later this year. Over 50 German hotels from NOVUM Hospitality will join Garner, with the first in Hamburg, Mannheim, and Berlin. Vienna and Maastricht will also see new Garner hotels. Turkey welcomes a 126-key Istanbul Garner hotel in 2025. Conversion activity represented 41% of IHG's openings and 55% of signings in the first half of the year.
