Marugame Udon expanded to 10 London sites in 3 years, won R200 Best Value Restaurant in 2022. Toridoll and Capdesia continue as co-investors in Fulham Shore. Takashi Sugiyama, EVP & COO of Toridoll, cites joint development of best practices. Bird confident in the brand's future growth under McIntyre.

Reading’s L’Ortolan to close after 38 years

🍕 L'Ortolan, a prestigious restaurant in Shinfield, is closing after 38 years. The current management, in charge for 23 years, announced the closure with 'a heavy heart'. The site, dating back to 1840, was converted into a restaurant in 1978 and received its first Michelin star in 1982. Under various chefs such as Nico Ladenis and John Burton Race, it earned two Michelin stars. Financial strains cited for the closure include Brexit, the lockdown, and the cost of living crisis.

Jack and Beth Bond take ownership of The Cottage in the Wood

🍴 Jack and Beth Bond, after joining as head chef and general manager/sommelier in January 2023, have acquired The Cottage in the Wood, a Michelin-starred restaurant with rooms in Cumbria's Whinlatter Forest. They took over from Liam and Kath Berney, who retired after 22 years. The Cottage in the Wood was established in 2002, earned a Michelin star in 2019, and has retained it since. The Bonds are committed to building on the restaurant's sustainability initiatives and its legacy.

🍽 Jack and Beth Bond, as of January this year, took over The Cottage in the Wood, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Cumbria's Whinlatter Forest, from Liam and Kath Berney who retired after 22 years. The establishment, which began as a 17th-century coaching inn, earned its Michelin star in 2019 under Chef Ben Wilkinson and has retained it since. Jack previously worked at Eleven Madison Park and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay; Beth, a physics graduate, worked at Tredwell’s and launched Apricity in 2022.

Mootz, with 20+ years of experience, formerly VP of operations at Puccini Group, will enhance dining experiences across the company’s properties. Notable past collaborations include Kimpton Hotels and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Mootz’s previous tenure with Springboard Hospitality dates to 2019. CEO Ben Rafter anticipates new levels of creativity under Mootz’s direction.

“It’s where I feel happiest” – Tom Griffiths returns to the pass after three-year break

🍴 Tom Griffiths, the founder of Flank and Good Birds, is now chef director of The Roof Gardens, a soon-to-launch private members' club in Kensington, London. The venue, a Grade II listed site, was formerly the A-list Kensington Roof Gardens nightclub. Griffiths announced his new role on Instagram after a three-year break from professional cooking. The Roof Gardens is currently under a multi-million-pound refurbishment funded by Stephen Fitzpatrick, owner and Ovo Energy founder, who acquired the 65,000 sq ft site from Virgin Limited Edition in 2021. Launch expected later this summer.

Previously the chef founder of Flank and Good Birds, Griffiths announced his comeback on Instagram after a three-year break. The Roof Gardens, located at the Grade II listed site formerly known as Kensington Roof Gardens, is undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment funded by Stephen Fitzpatrick, owner of Ovo Energy. The relaunch is expected later this summer, following Fitzpatrick's acquisition from Virgin Limited Edition in 2021.
