The design integrates historic elements with bespoke and vintage details, offering a contrast of raw materiality and contemporary interventions. This German debut for The Dean brand includes vibrant public spaces like a bakery and restaurant, and an intimate library with locally-sourced design titles. Artworks by local artists, selected by Thom Oosterhof, enhance the eclectic interior.

SODA transforms art deco landmark into contemporary workspace

🌆 SODA designed Nineteen Wells Street office in Fitzrovia, London, commissioned by Great Portland Estates. The office, located in a heritage-listed art deco building from 1929, features a raspberry-red spiral staircase and a two-storey bookcase. The design blends art deco influences with modern elements, creating a welcoming and timeless space. Custom rugs were designed with Floor Story. The lower ground floor features a snug for collaboration, with a moodier palette centered around deep green hues.

🏨 In East Sussex, England, House of Drè revamped a Georgian mansion into the 51-room "Crafted at Powdermills" hotel and members' club. Launched by Chris King, the design blends historical features like marble fireplaces and antique floors with modern elements. Local craftspeople contributed to bespoke furniture and ceramics. The hotel features bold color palettes and offers workshops by local artisans, aiming to create a network of nature-first, creatively charged hotels across the UK.

🏠 Architect Serena Mignatti renovated Thom Yorke and Dajana Roncione's 350-square-meter apartment in Rome, embracing the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. The historic building in the city center, once home to writer Italo Calvino, features original wood beams and parquet floors. Mignatti used salvaged materials and lime-based paints, integrating underfloor heating and air conditioning. Local artisans crafted bespoke elements, while furniture was sourced from Belgian dealer Axel Vervoordt, enhancing the unique blend of past and present.
