Accor appoints Alex as CEO South Asia

📚 Accor has appointed Ranju Alex as CEO for South Asia, overseeing operations in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Alex transitions from her role as Regional VP at Marriott International and will manage over 70 hotels with 30 more planned. Earlier this year, Accor announced a joint venture with InterGlobe to consolidate assets and expand Accor's brands in India, including those under Ennismore.

Temple Bar Hotel joins The Unlimited Collection

🏨 Temple Bar Hotel in Dublin has joined The Unlimited Collection by Ascott in 2025. It features 136 rooms, three food and beverage venues, including the Toast Restaurant and Buskers Bar, and a sports bar with 24 screens. The hotel is the second in the UK and Ireland to join the collection. The U Shop offers local products and souvenirs. This addition emphasizes Ascott's focus on authentic, culturally rich experiences in key cultural hubs.

Braemar Hotels & Resorts initiates sales process

💰 Braemar Hotels & Resorts, a US-based real estate investment trust, has initiated a sales process. As of 2025, Braemar oversees 14 luxury hotels, including nine resorts and five urban properties under brands like Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons. A $480 million sale fee has been negotiated with Ashford Inc, with $17 million advanced. Buyers must assume existing management agreements, or cancel for $25 million. The company aims to maximize shareholder value amid favorable market conditions.

Starhotels opens Hotel Gabrielli Venezia following renovation

🏨 Starhotels Group has reopened Hotel Gabrielli in Venice as a five-star property after a renovation by designer Andrea Auletta. Located on Riva degli Schiavoni, near Piazza San Marco, this 14th-century palazzo has been owned by the Perkhofer family since 1856. It offers 66 rooms and suites, a spa, and two bars. Now part of Starhotels’ Collezione brand, it also joins The Leading Hotels of the World.

89,000 UK jobs lost in hospitality since autumn Budget

📈 UK, since October: The hospitality sector faced 89,000 job losses, over half of the UK's total cuts, as a consequence of NICs policy changes. This figure triples the initial forecast of 50,000 and represents a 4.1% workforce reduction, seven times the broader economic rate. UKHospitality, led by Kate Nicholls, urges the government to lower business rates, fix NICs, and cut VAT in the upcoming Budget to safeguard employment.

Soho House checks out of Wall Street

💸 Four years after its IPO at $14 per share, Soho House is going private again. MCR Hotels, with Ron Burkle and Yucaipa Companies maintaining control, will acquire remaining shares at $9 each, valuing the company at $2.7 billion. Since its IPO, Soho House has expanded from 28 to 46 properties. The deal, closing by year-end, aims to focus on long-term stability, with MCR’s Tyler Morse becoming vice chairman to guide global growth.

Ruby Stella acquired by LaSalle for £48 million

🏨 UK, June 2025: RE Capital sold the Ruby Stella hotel in Farringdon, London, to LaSalle Investment Management for £48 million. The hotel, featuring 153 rooms, a restaurant, and a bar, launched in November 2024 as Ruby's 20th European hotel. It boasts a BREEAM Excellent rating and an EPC A6. Savills advised RE Capital, with Constantine RE and Gowling WLG representing LaSalle.
