Criterion acquires retail store for debut Zedwell in Scotland

🏨 Criterion Capital acquires former Debenhams store at 109-112 Princes Street, Edinburgh, to open the first Zedwell hotel in Scotland. Occupying over 116,500 square feet, the Edinburgh Zedwell is positioned near Old Town, the Royal Mile, and offers views of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens. Criterion plans a UK-wide expansion with a pipeline of 22 hotels and over 7000 rooms, aiming for assets under management to exceed £6 billion. JLL advised Criterion on the acquisition. Edinburgh is considered the best performing hotel market in Europe.

Room Mate Hotels acquires Staying Valencia

🏨 Room Mate Hotels acquired Staying Valencia, adding over 500 rooms and five restaurants to its brand. With this, Room Mate's portfolio grows to 32 hotels across Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, and Turkey. TPG Angelo Gordon and Westmont Hospitality, Room Mate's co-owners since 2022, support the brand's growth trajectory, aiming for a €40 million EBIT and a debt-free status by 2025. Advisors included Clifford Chance, Perez Llorca, Jones Lang LaSalle, PwC, and Arcadis, with JJL advising Staying Valencia.

Hospitality academy KIHA launches senior exec development course

🏦 Kepler International Hospitality Academy (KIHA) will launch its first Senior Executive Leadership Programme in Amsterdam in October 2024. This five-month course is designed for senior executives with over 10 years of experience in hospitality management. The Programme features three core themes and is divided into two stages: three five-day residential study modules in Amsterdam, Freiburg/Basel, and Kyoto, followed by a two-month leadership assignment. Each cohort is limited to 15 participants, with personalized mentorship and coaching throughout the program. Co-founders include Jannes Sörensen, Phillippe Krenzer, Jacob Mayne, and Ken Yokoyama. Applications are now open.

Quendoo to launch in UK following investment round

Quendoo charges a fee of 1.95% per booking without setup or subscription fees.

The Social Hub unveils next gen room design

🏠 In Amsterdam, The Social Hub is testing premium rooms designed for a "calming and functional private space," contrasting with communal areas. The year-long design process involved surveys, focus groups, and expert consultancies. Features include a hybrid space, king-size bed, rain shower, and a selection of motivational books. Italy's Rizoma Architetture leads the design with local and international partners. Following the pilot, the design will expand across the brand's portfolio in the coming years.

2024 shortlists for IHS London awards revealed

Everly Hotels Collection officially opens first property

🏡 The White Horses, a boutique hotel near Brighton in Rottingdean, UK, opens as the first property of Green King’s Everly Hotels Collection. It features 32 guestrooms, 3 dog-friendly, ranging from classic doubles to superior balcony rooms and suites. The hotel includes a 290-seater restaurant with sea views and sources local British produce. Managed by Vincent Madden, this marks the beginning of a pipeline of multiple sites across the UK.

Louboutin acquires stake in Experimental Group

🏠 Christian Louboutin has acquired a stake in Experimental Group, joining Jean Moueix and Brookfield Asset Management as shareholders. Alexis Dyèvre is also taking a minority stake. The company plans openings in Val d’Isère, Rome, and Paris next year. Experimental Group owns 10 hotels across Europe and the US, and operates wine bars and cocktail clubs in New York, Paris, London, and other cities. The US expansion began in 2024 with a New York wine bar.

Former Devonshire Club to join Sir Hotels

📌 London's Devonshire Club, once closed during the pandemic, will rebrand as Sir Devonshire Square and join Sircle Collection's Sir Hotels, which currently operates five locations in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Ibiza, and Berlin. The hotel will offer 81 rooms, 11 suites, three F&B outlets, a gym, and a yoga studio. Sircle Collection, established in 2011, runs 23 properties. Sir Hotels is set to expand to Prague, and Sircle Collection's Sircle Hotels will debut in Milan in 2025.

Kaya Holding acquires London’s Great Northern Hotel

🏨 Turkish firm Kaya Holding acquired the Great Northern Hotel in London, a Grade II-listed building with 88 keys and three F&B venues. The acquisition was advised by BlackGate and Fladgate LLP, while Cushman & Wakefield acted for the seller. Formed in 2013 after a £40 million renovation, the hotel changed hands after former owner Jeremy Robson left in 2019, with Kew Green managing since June of that year. Kaya Holding aims to strengthen tourism ties between Turkey and England.
