Shangri-La adds humanoid to workforce at Shanghai hotel

🤖 Shangri-La Traders and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Hotel, China, recently inaugurated with KEENON Robotics’ XMAN-R1 humanoid greeter. The hotel, opened earlier this week, marks Shangri-La's fifth Shanghai property and the debut of the refreshed Traders brand. XMAN-R1 uses KEENON's KOM2.0 model for interactive tasks. Supported by robots like W3 for deliveries, S100 for luggage, and C40 for cleaning, the initiative showcases enhanced hotel operations and guest experiences.

The Hoxton set for Madrid opening next year

🏨 Ennismore plans to open The Hoxton, Madrid in 2026 at Plaza de Santa Ana, marking its second Spanish location after Barcelona (opened 2022). The hotel will feature 192 rooms, an all-day coffee bar, Il Bambini Club, and rooftop bar Cayo Coco. Refurbishment is led by Petra AM and Urban Input Group. Part of Ennismore’s global expansion, other future openings include Oslo, Kraków, Hamburg, Melbourne, and Nashville.

Stay Original Company expands with acquisition of the Eastbury Hotel

🏨 UK: The Eastbury Hotel in Sherborne, Dorset, sold by the de Savary family to Stay Original Company. Seventh addition to their portfolio of boutique hotels. Refurbishment set for 2026, featuring new interiors and an all-day dining with a bakery. Originally refurbished in 2018 by Peter and Lana de Savary, adding a spa and luxury potting sheds. Knight Frank's Matthew Smith facilitated the sale. Stay Original directors Greacen and Brooke-Webb express excitement about the acquisition.

US hotels are losing $31 million a day due to government shutdown

💸 US government shutdown since October 1 has cost the hotel industry $650 million, losing $31 million daily. Over 30 hospitality associations, including AHLA, plead for resolution to protect holiday travel. Shutdown impacts travel, causing trip cancellations and weakened consumer confidence. The hotel sector supports 2.1 million direct jobs and almost nine million overall. Rosanna Maietta, AHLA’s CEO, calls for urgent government action to safeguard the vital travel and hospitality sectors.

Hyatt reveals plans to open Andaz Hiroshima in 2027

🏨 Hyatt Hotels Corporation will open the Andaz Hiroshima in 2027 through a management agreement with Takenaka Corporation. Located in central Hiroshima, the hotel will occupy the 21st to 31st floors of a high-rise building. It will feature 235 guest rooms and suites, restaurants, a rooftop bar, a fitness center with an indoor pool, and event spaces. This will be the second Andaz hotel in Japan, following the Tokyo location.

360 hours per employee lost annually due to disconnected systems

📈 Globally, Access Hospitality's survey highlighted inefficiencies in hospitality tech. Disconnected systems result in 16% wasted operational costs and 360 lost hours per year. In the UK and Ireland, managers lose 286 hours annually, while hotels face 322 hours lost. Switzerland tops the list with 470 hours lost, followed by Austria at 382 hours. The US and Indonesia use 4.1 systems, losing 312 hours. Despite this, nearly half of businesses see AI as a solution to enhance efficiency.

Kimpton to debut in Austria mid-2028
