Houston restaurateurs open Milton’s, an Italian-American trattoria in Rice Village

🍕 Milton’s, an Italian-American trattoria, opened on September 27 in Houston’s Rice Village, founded by Benjy Levit and Seth Siegel-Gardner. Located above Local Foods, the venue was previously Eau Tour, launched in spring 2023. The redesigned 2,000-square-foot space features a bar seating 11 and a dining room for 60 guests, with an enclosed patio for private dining. The menu highlights housemade pastas and a signature 100-layer lasagna. A revamp of the adjacent Lee’s Den bar is expected in winter, and a new project with Rice University involving The Brochstein Pavilion is set to debut in the fall.

San Diego’s CH Projects opens Leila, a Middle Eastern restaurant in North Park

🍴 CH Projects opened Leila, a 4,800-square-foot restaurant in San Diego's North Park, on July 31. Designed to resemble Marrakesh markets, it features a bridge over pools, hanging lanterns, and a starry ceiling. Arsalun Tafazoli, CH Projects founder, inspired by his Middle Eastern travels, aims to showcase regional flavors and communal dining. Leila's menu includes shareable mezze, breads, salads, and proteins like steak and salmon kebabs. The beverage program highlights regional flavors, offering shared cocktails and a two-person drink menu. CH Projects is also developing Baby Grand, a new hotel opening in early 2025.

Tacodeli celebrates 25 years by bringing back its daily specials menu

🌮 Tacodeli, established in Austin, Texas, in November 1999, marks 25 years with daily specials reintroduced, previously offered from 2003 until 2020. Chef Roberto Espinosa and Eric Wilkerson’s taqueria features five weekly taco specials and weekend ceviche. Special tacos include carne asado (Monday), chicken tinga (Tuesday), new brisket (Wednesday), scallops (Thursday), and steak chimichurri (Friday). $5 Margaritas and Ranch Waters are available until November 8, the brand’s 25th anniversary. Tacodeli has 14 locations and plans expansion in 2025, eyeing a Fort Worth opening. Salsas are sold in Whole Foods and H-E-B stores in Texas, with Salsa Doña being a popular choice since 2000.

Kwame Onwuachi opens Dōgon, an Afro-Caribbean restaurant in Washington, D.C.

🍴 Chef Kwame Onwuachi opened Dōgon in Washington, D.C. on September 9, named after the Dogon tribe with inspiration from Benjamin Banneker. Dōgon offers a 140-seat dining space inside the Salamander hotel, designed by Modellus Novus with celestial-themed décor. The restaurant serves Afro-Caribbean cuisine, featuring dishes such as carrot tigua and lobster escovitch, curated by chef de cuisine Martel Stone. The cocktail program, created by Derek Brown, showcases Black-owned brands and includes the Flower Pot Punch, a pre-Prohibition classic.

Spiegelworld opens New York City-themed diner and two bars to complement its latest Las Vegas experience, DiscoShow

The venue offers a dinner-and-show experience with a 500-person-capacity disco, a 161-seat restaurant, and bars, drawing inspiration from New York's 1970s disco scene. Drinks and dishes receive modern updates with fresh ingredients, reinventing nostalgic classics like Appletinis and French onion soup mac & cheese.

Dallas-based Big Dill Hospitality opens Even Coast, a neighborhood restaurant serving seafood, steak, and pasta

🍴 Big Dill Hospitality, led by Omar Flores and the Marshi family, started with Whistle Britches in 2016, now has three locations, and opened Muchacho in 2019, which has two locations. Even Coast, focused on seafood, steak, and pasta, opened in Addison, Texas on August 19, seating 150 people inside and 75 on the patio. The group plans to open steakhouse Casa Brasa in University Park in spring 2025, featuring Mexican and Japanese elements, and a Mexican seafood concept in the Design District in summer 2025.

A ‘Yellowstone’-themed steakhouse has popped up at Wynn Las Vegas for a multi-month run

🍴 Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse, a pop-up at Wynn Las Vegas inspired by the TV show “Yellowstone,” opened in mid-September and will run through early 2025. Taylor Sheridan, creator of “Yellowstone” and owner of the 6666 Ranch, offers a menu with cowboy cuisine, featuring meat from 6666 Ranch and Japanese purebred wagyu from Grazing Star Ranch. The 48-ounce Japanese Purebred Freedom Wagyu Tomahawk, exclusive to Wynn Las Vegas, costs $999.90. Chef David Middleton leads the culinary experience, and the steakhouse transforms nightly from Tableau restaurant.

Sean Brock’s fast-casual restaurant Joyland expands from Nashville to Birmingham, Ala., with more on the way

🍴 Award-winning chef Sean Brock opened Joyland's first location in Nashville in 2020; the second opened in Birmingham, Ala. in mid-August. The fast-casual restaurant serves biscuits, burgers, fried chicken, and features a popular Crustburger. The Birmingham location seats 84 inside and 49 on the patio. The menu includes items like breakfast burritos, biscuit sandwiches, and seasonal hand pies. Organic chicken is sourced from Springer Mountain Farm in Georgia, and Bear Creek Farm in Tennessee provides a proprietary beef blend. Joyland is in partnership with Nick Pihakis of Pihakis Restaurant Group and Southall Farm & Inn founder Paul Mishkin. More Joyland locations are expected to open in the South in the coming months.

Otto & Pepe opens in Miami’s Wynwood Art District with a 28-seat pasta bar and natural wine

🍝 Otto & Pepe, Miami’s first pasta bar by Gabriela Chiriboga and Samuel Ghouzi, opened on September 12 in Wynwood Art District. The 147-seat venue was designed by Saladino Design Studio, featuring house-made pastas and natural wines. Menu by Michelin-starred chef Viviana Varese, with wine expert Karina Iglesias and mixologist Matias Iriarte. The menu offers four categories: red sauce pasta, white sauce pasta, more pasta, and not pasta, plus desserts like tiramisu and brioche with gelato.

Nuri Steakhouse opens in Dallas with a $20M buildout and a Korean-accented menu

🍴 Nuri Steakhouse opened on August 20, 2023, in Dallas' Uptown, with a $20 million design and buildout cost. The 9,500 square foot venue offers seating for 150 inside and 50 outside. Wan Kim, Smoothie King’s global CEO, introduced the steakhouse presenting a menu that blends steakhouse classics with Korean flavors, designed by culinary director Minji Kim and executive chef Mario Hernandez. It also features a wine cellar with 750 labels and 6,000 bottles, curated by master sommelier Barbara Werley.
