U.S. travel agents once numbered 170,000; now, discovery may consolidate to ChatGPT/OpenAI and Google/Gemini. AI risks homogenizing choices, but personalization could counteract this. Independent hotels can now better target customers through AI. While AI simplifies building, it may centralize distribution, leaving OTAs vulnerable to repricing.
