Federal minimum wage could double under proposed bipartisan Senate legislation
💸 U.S. Sens. Josh Hawley and Peter Welch introduced the Higher Wages for American Workers Act to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 by January 1, 2026. The current wage of $7.25 has remained unchanged since July 2009. This marks the fifth attempt in Congress to raise the wage, originally part of Biden's 2021 plan. Previous attempts, including a $17 proposal in July 2023, failed. This bill excludes subminimum wage adjustments.
