Avalara Unveils Intelligent Tax Content Solution for Lodging and Hospitality
📍 In the past three years, global Travel & Tourism businesses with climate targets have increased by 27%, reaching 53% out of 250 analyzed. Launched at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the WTTC's Net Zero Roadmap's second edition shows a jump from 42% in 2021. One-third of these businesses commit to Science-Based Targets initiative goals, with SBTi target adoption more than doubling since 2021. The roadmap, developed with Accenture, UNEP, and Azerbaijan's State Tourism Agency, seeks net zero by 2050 and introduces decarbonization frameworks. Travel & Tourism's carbon emissions dropped to 6.5% of global emissions in 2023 from 7.8% in 2019, indicating a 10.2% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity. Aviation, cruise, and accommodation industries saw carbon intensity reductions of 6% and 11%, respectively. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is highlighted as key for aviation's decarbonization, with calls for increased adoption and support.
