Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach names new culinary leaders

👩‍🍳 Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort in Orange County has appointed Michelin-starred chef Steve Benjamin as director of culinary and promoted Nicole Encarnacion to executive chef at Bourbon Steak. Benjamin, a Paris native with nearly 25 years of experience, will oversee all food and beverage outlets. Encarnacion, from the Philippines and with the resort since 2018, will lead day-to-day operations. These moves aim to expand culinary offerings and promote women into senior roles.

BoE holds interest rates at 4%

💸 The Bank of England (BoE), this week, decided to maintain interest rates at 4% due to inflation concerns. The Monetary Policy Committee voted 7–2 to keep the rate steady, with two members favoring a reduction to 3.75%. The committee also voted 7–2 to decrease UK government bond purchases by £70 billion over 12 months, reducing the total to £488 billion. CPI inflation was 3.8% in August, expected to rise slightly in September, with a target of 2%.

Murrayshall launches luxury pods as part of £30m estate revamp

🏨 Murrayshall Country Estate, near Perth, launched luxury accommodation pods as the first phase of a £30m redevelopment, increasing capacity by 50%. This five-year project, in partnership with Armadilla, enhances the 365-acre estate's offerings, including a 27-hole golf course and AA Rosette restaurant. The expansion promises job creation in the area. Murrayshall recently won Best Hotel Experience at the Central and East of Scotland Thistle Awards. Future plans include a spa and fitness center.

Bain Capital to acquire Pullman Montparnasse hotel in Paris

🏠 Bain Capital acquired the Pullman Montparnasse hotel in Paris from Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield with Columbia Threadneedle and QuinSpark for an undisclosed amount. Signed on 17 September, it's among France's largest hotel transactions. Built in 1974, the 957-room, 32-storey hotel had a €216m refurbishment in 2021. Located in the 14th district, it features conference space, restaurants, and a sky bar. Plans include energy efficiency upgrades to comply with the French Tertiary Decree.

Clermont Hotel Group agrees dining partnership with Gordon Ramsay

Clermont’s CEO, Gavin Taylor, and Gordon Ramsay’s CEO, Andy Wenlock, anticipate enhancing guest experiences with exclusive culinary offerings. Soneva Fushi wins hospitality award in global hotel ranking

The main ceremony is on 30 October in London. Soneva Fushi opened in the 1990s and exemplifies “barefoot luxury” with sustainable, wellness-focused services.

St Ermin’s Hotel appoints new sales and marketing director

Near St James’s Park station, it's noted for historic ties to British intelligence and its two AA Rosette Caxton Restaurant. In 2022-2024, it earned four AA Red Stars and two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.

AX Hotels opens Malta’s first integrated wellness retreat

🏨 AX Hotels' Verdala Wellness Hotel opened as Malta’s first integrated wellness retreat, located above Rabat’s valleys. The adults-only, 46-room hotel includes a 1,500 sq m spa with seven treatment rooms. Wellness facilities feature a hammam, meditation areas, and holistic therapies. Dining is led by Michelin-star chef Victor Borg with anti-inflammatory menus. The hotel, part of the AX Privilege Collection, targets the booming wellness tourism sector, according to commercial director Josef Sant.

Bristol hoteliers to partner with schools for careers initiative

🏨 Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA) to launch a schools partnership program on October 2, 2025, at DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre. Nine hotels' managers will serve as "Hospitality Connect Ambassadors" to pair with schools, offering workplace experiences. Hospitality Connect, started in Manchester in 2021, linked 10 hotels with 10 schools and is now in 18 regions. Supported by the Savoy Educational Trust, this initiative aims to address recruitment challenges in the hospitality sector.

Kali Hotel tops out at Hollywood Park in Inglewood

🏨 KPC Development's Kali Hotel and Rooftop in Inglewood has completed its structural frame. The $300m project, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, will feature 300 rooms and open in September 2026. Key amenities include 34 suites, a spa, pool, fitness center, and a 12th-floor restaurant. Located in Hollywood Park, the 300-acre development includes SoFi Stadium and will host the 2028 global sports event's Broadcast Center. Construction began less than 11 months ago.
