Meliá Hotels partners with Les Roches to train future leaders

Whitbread profits fall to £316m amid flat UK sales

📈 Whitbread reported an adjusted pre-tax profit of £316m for H1 2026, down from £340m in 2025, with statutory profit at £287m, impacted by £28m in one-off charges. Premier Inn maintained market leadership in the UK and Germany. Food and beverage sales fell 11%, and UK profit margins narrowed to 23.4%. The Five-Year Plan aims for £300m in added profit by 2030. Whitbread plans to return £2bn to shareholders and open 500-700 new rooms this year.

CityHub to open first German hotel with Hamburg conversion

🏨 Netherlands-based hotel brand CityHub, in partnership with Kohler and von Bargen, will enter the German market by redeveloping the former Hotel Pacific in Hamburg into a 110-room site. This marks CityHub's fifth European location and first hotel conversion. Doubling the building's capacity from 52 units, the hotel will be situated between St Pauli and Sternschanze. Construction begins in 2025, targeting opening in 2027. CityHub also operates in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, and Reykjavik.

Village Hotel Club Reading appoints new general manager

🏨 Rob Lees will manage Village Hotel Club's new site in Reading, opening in December. Located at the former Crowne Plaza at Caversham Bridge, this site is undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment, creating over 100 jobs. Lees, with 20 years in hospitality, previously managed Village Hotel Club Farnborough. The Reading hotel will feature a health club, event spaces, Starbucks, and a riverside Pub and Grill. Village is also Reading FC's hotel partner for the 2025–26 season.

Ennismore to launch first all-inclusive resort in Ras Al Khaimah

🏖 Ennismore plans to open its first Middle East lifestyle all-inclusive resort, SO/ Ras Al Khaimah, on Al Marjan Island in November 2025. The 257-room property will feature five restaurants, a cocktail bar, and event facilities for up to 345 guests. Ras Al Khaimah recorded 1.28 million visitors in 2024, up 12% from 2023, and aims for 3.5 million by 2030. Ennismore operates over 60 resorts globally, representing 25,000 rooms.

Savoy Hotel completes first phase of £45m refurb ahead of schedule

💼 The Savoy Hotel in London completed the first phase of a £45 million refurbishment of its guestrooms and suites ahead of schedule. Beginning in August 2024, Edgewater Contracts led the project, blending Edwardian and Art Deco restoration with modern design, including a new river balcony suite. The second phase starts in January 2026, ending December 2026. 50 chandeliers and original features were preserved, with bespoke joinery from Edgewater's 40,000 sq ft facility.

Rocco Forte Hotels names new general managers across Europe

🏨 Rocco Forte Hotels has appointed four new general managers across Europe. Anna Gricini will lead Hotel de la Ville in Rome starting 1 November; Maximilian von Reden will manage Hotel Amigo in Brussels from 3 November; Matteo Gentile will head Hotel Savoy in Florence from 3 November; and Ulrich Schwer will manage The Charles Hotel in Munich. Francesco Roccato will oversee The Carlton Milan's opening on 6 November. Rocco Forte Hotels, founded in 1996, operates 15 properties.
