Safestay agrees £5.35m Edinburgh hostel sale

🏠 Safestay will sell its Edinburgh Cowgate hostel freehold for £5.35m with a 10-year franchise agreement starting December 1, 2025. Originally purchased in October 2023 for £4.3m, Safestay invested £1.2m in refurbishment. It reported £0.95m in revenue and £0.125m profit before tax by December 2024. The franchise will bring £75,000 annually plus fees. Safestay aims to reduce debt and improve financial stability amidst pricing pressures affecting 2025 revenue.

Broadway Park Hotel on Isle of Wight sold to Caledonian Leisure

🏨 Broadway Park Hotel in Sandown, built in 1870 and featuring 106 bedrooms, is now part of Caledonian Leisure's portfolio as the Caledonian Island Hotel. Originally a family home, it has operated as a hotel since the early 1960s. This acquisition is part of a larger sale by Christie and Co, involving 33 Coast and Country Hotels with 2,664 bedrooms. David McDonald, Caledonian's finance director, expressed gratitude for acquiring their sixth hotel.

More than one third of people plan UK travel to visit family this Christmas

🎁 More than a third, or 37%, of UK residents plan to travel domestically to visit family and friends this Christmas, according to a survey of 45,000 by Travelodge. Only 4% will go overseas. Among these, 14% will sleep on sofas or floors. The survey also reveals 49% prefer regional Christmas markets, with Bath leading the list. Traditional meals remain popular: 65% will have turkey. Casual outfits dominate, with 45% opting for comfort.

Nobu set to open landmark luxury hotel in Manchester tower

🏠 Global hospitality brand Nobu is launching a luxury hotel in Manchester, UK, as part of a £360m, 76-storey mixed-use tower, becoming the tallest building outside London. The development, led by Salboy, Domis, and Nobu Hospitality, includes 160 hotel rooms, 452 residences, retail, leisure, and co-working spaces. Designed by SimpsonHaugh Architects, the tower will stand 246 meters high. Construction begins next year, with completion by the decade's end. Co-founder Robert De Niro attended the launch event.

Ardencote Hotel to auction contents ahead of multi-million-pound refurb

The hotel features 110 bedrooms, 3 restaurants, and a spa. Items include beds, kitchen appliances, and gym equipment. Pro Auction is managing the sale, following similar events at The Savoy and Luton Hoo. A public viewing is on 10 December.

McKeever Hotels unveils new five-year growth strategy

Down Hall executive chef wins Innovative Chef of the Year at MIA Awards

Seaton House appoints Lee Murdoch as executive chef

The hotel is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is now home to Ondine Oyster and Grill.

SmartRental Group launches Malacuna hostel brand in the UK

📍 SmartRental Group entered the UK market in November 2025 with its Malacuna hostel brand, opening locations in Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham, adding over 600 beds to its portfolio. Manchester offers 132 beds, Liverpool 362, and Birmingham 126. Headquartered in Madrid, SmartRental operates 5,000 rooms across 59 European properties, reporting a 2024 revenue of €67m (£59m), a 91.5% increase. Expansion plans include new sites in Greece, Italy, France, Barcelona, and Madrid.

Zetter Group to open Bloomsbury site in early 2026
