Traineeship Directive – HOTREC urges pragmatism in trilogue negotiations

📝 The European Parliament and Council's trilogue negotiations on the Traineeship Directive prompted HOTREC to stress three priorities: limiting the Directive to employment contracts, allowing differentiated trainee treatment, and maintaining the role of collective agreements. Study Sheds Light on EU-US Labour Productivity Gap

📊 European Employers’ Institute, September 2025: Labor productivity in the EU has grown by just 1% annually over 25 years, while the US saw 1.8% growth. In 2024, EU productivity was 20% below US levels. Key factors: low ICT investment, market fragmentation, business dynamism, skills mismatch, and regulatory burdens. Since 2019, EU productivity growth slowed to 0.6% compared to 1.9% in the US, especially in ICT and business services. This accentuates the need for digital investments and regulatory reform.

Collective action against Booking.com: Over 15,000 hotels participating

🖥 HOTREC, with over 30 national hotel associations, leads a collective action against Booking.com for anti-competitive best price clauses. More than 15,000 hotels across Europe have registered at www.mybookingclaim.com before the deadline on 29 August 2025. This follows the European Court of Justice's ruling on 19 September 2024, declaring such clauses violated EU competition law. The lawsuit will be filed in the Amsterdam District Court by the end of 2025.

Led by the Dutch Stichting Hotel Claims Alliance and supported by HOTREC and 30 national hotel associations, hotels from Italy, Germany, and Greece are prominent participants. The suit will be filed in Amsterdam District Court by year-end. Registration closes on August 29, 2025.

Supported by HOTREC and 30 national hotel associations, the action follows a European Court of Justice ruling on 19 September 2024. Majority participation came from Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, and Austria. The lawsuit will be filed with the Amsterdam District Court by year-end, consolidating hotel data. Registration deadline is 29 August.
