Hospitable launches first-of-its-kind Trip Insurance upsell, unlocking new passive revenue for hosts and property managers

SAN FRANCISCO, 21 JANUARY 2025 – Property management software Hospitable has launched a fully automated trip insurance upsell that allows short-term rental property managers and hosts to earn commissions directly from guest-purchased travel protection, introducing a new category of passive revenue within the guest journey.

Built natively into Hospitable’s guest portal, the feature automatically offers trip insurance to guests, with no setup or ongoing management required from property managers. Travel protection can be added at any point up to 24 hours before check-in, creating a flexible, post-booking purchase option for guests. Guests can choose to add coverage directly in the guest portal, helping safeguard reservations against a range of unforeseen events, while hosts earn commission on every policy sold.

Hospitable is the first property management platform to enable hosts to earn commission from trip insurance through a fully automated guest portal upsell, turning insurance from a static add-on into a hands-off revenue stream.

Early performance data highlights the opportunity. Hosts and managers have already earned as much as $190 from a single trip insurance purchase, with an average commission of approximately $19.80 per policy, generated entirely passively. In practical terms, a single trip insurance sale can generate enough commission to cover a host’s monthly Hospitable subscription multiple times over. Commission is paid out automatically, with all policies, claims, and guest support handled on behalf of hosts.

The launch reflects a broader shift in the short-term rental industry toward technology that does more than manage operations; it actively works on behalf of hosts to unlock new revenue streams without adding complexity or workload.

Pierre-Camille Hamana, CEO and Founder of Hospitable, said: “This is about embedding value directly into the guest journey. Trip insurance is offered automatically, guests get peace of mind, and hosts earn commission without doing anything differently. It’s a simple shift, but it changes how revenue can be generated in short-term rentals.”

The launch builds on Hospitable’s broader evolution of the guest portal, moving it from a check-in and communication tool to a core performance layer for hosts. Over the past year, the guest portal has become central to driving revenue, security, and protection, with trip insurance now joining existing upsells as part of a unified, automated guest experience.

The trip insurance upsell is currently available on US-based properties managed by Hospitable hosts and property managers, with broader availability planned over time.

Launched in 2016 as a time-saving PMS, Hospitable has evolved into a short-term rental super app that goes beyond traditional property management – automating guest messaging with AI, optimizing nightly rates, managing rental agreements and security deposits, coordinating teams, and powering direct booking websites with built-in payments and property protection.
