Marriott and Hilton’s 2026 soft-brand agreements preserve owner-set rates but impose discounts, rate guarantees and distribution restrictions

  • [email protected] (Markus Busch)
  • 30 October 2026
🏨 Marriott’s Autograph Collection and Hilton’s Curio Collection let owners set room rates under 2026 agreements, but impose discount, price-guarantee and distribution rules. Marriott charges $50–$500 per rate-guarantee violation; qualifying lower rates found within 24 hours trigger matching plus 25% off or loyalty points. Marriott reports average merchant OTA commissions of 10%–12.5%, versus Booking.com’s 15% starting rate for independents. Owners retain pricing decisions but lose freedom to undercut chain channels.

Booking.com stopped sharing guest phone numbers with hotel systems on September 28, limiting automated pre-arrival messaging

  • [email protected] (Markus Busch)
  • 30 October 2026
🏨 Booking.com stopped sending guest phone numbers to all hotels’ connected systems on September 28, 2026, citing fraud prevention. Numbers remain accessible manually in its Extranet and Pulse app. Automated pre-arrival offers now depend on Booking.com messaging, requiring approved links and registered senders. Since October 1, WhatsApp charges businesses for replies beyond 1,000 free monthly replies per phone number, with rates varying by guest country. No hotel company has disclosed financial losses from Booking.com’s change.

Hilton for Business adds team booking and reservation management tools to program with over 400,000 members

  • [email protected] (Markus Busch)
  • 30 October 2026
🏨 Hilton added team booking tools to its free Hilton for Business program on October 22, 2026, letting administrators book, change, cancel and track colleagues’ stays. Hilton reports over 400,000 members; its 2023 research found 75% of small-business customers manage travel in-house. Competing with IHG and Marriott, these chain-only hotel portals exclude independents. None of the three chains discloses program room-night totals, leaving their impact on bookings unquantified.
