🍴 Chef Nobu Matsuhisa emigrated from Japan in the late 1970s, creating a sushi empire with over 36 restaurants globally. Nobu's journey began in Peru, but his breakthrough was in Los Angeles in 1987 with Matsuhisa, attracting Robert De Niro. De Niro first visited in 1988, proposing a New York restaurant in 1989. Nobu New York, launched by Nobu, De Niro, Drew Nieporent, and Meir Teper, opened in Tribeca, seating over 150, three times Matsuhisa's capacity.
