Wyndham Issues Notice of Default to Tian Rui, Potentially Terminating Super 8 China Agreement Covering 800 Hotels
8 July 2026💸 In 2004, Wyndham launched the Super 8 brand in China, managed by Tian Rui Hotel Corporation. By 2008, Aetos Capital invested $50 million to expand from 49 hotels and 4,700 rooms, with 67 more planned. However, by 2025, Wyndham defaulted Tian Rui due to license breaches. Consequently, Wyndham omitted Super 8’s 68,000 rooms from its 2025 metrics. The financial impact was minor, with 2024 fees under $3 million.
