Keswick’s Highfield Hotel sold to local investor for £1.8m

💸 The Highfield Hotel and Restaurant in Keswick has been acquired by a local investor for £1.8 million. The 18-bedroom property, located on The Heads, was sold on behalf of Caroline Speck and the estate of the late Howard Speck. The new owner plans a major refurbishment, expected to take six months. Originally acquired by the Speck family in 2004, they are divesting to focus on other ventures. The sale was managed by Haydn Spedding from Colliers Manchester.

Radisson opens first New Zealand hotel in Auckland

🏨 Radisson debuted its first New Zealand hotel, Radisson Red Auckland, in the Arts District on 33 Lorne Street. This upscale hotel features 322 rooms and the largest rooftop space in the country, accommodating 219 guests. Located in the Central Business District, it offers easy access to major attractions and is pet-friendly. The hotel includes a fitness center and event spaces and is designed to reflect Auckland's vibrant arts scene. Tim Cordon and Reinout Engel highlighted the hotel's creative spirit and cultural engagement.

Y Seren in Carmarthenshire opens following £3m investment

🏨 Y Seren Hotel and Restaurant, a new 23-bed boutique hotel in Llangunnor, opened in March 2024 after a £3 million investment. Owners Tudur and Andrea Williams transformed a former care home, creating 55 local jobs. The building, dating back to the 1890s, previously served as a hotel and home to Archbishop David Prosser. Head chef Navi Mudaly leads the kitchen. Future developments include a gym, outdoor hot tub, and wedding facilities, with completion anticipated this spring.

Two Arora Group hotel developments brought to market for £6m

🏨 Two Arora Group-owned hotel development sites in Birmingham and Glasgow city centers are on the market for a combined price of £6 million. The Birmingham site, priced at £2 million, has planning approval for a 227-bedroom hotel. The Glasgow site is listed for £4 million and includes planning for a 276-bedroom hotel near Glasgow Queen Street station. Acquired in July 2025, these non-core assets offer potential for alternative development.

Voco Zeal Exeter achieves BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating

📍 Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park hotel, a 142-room facility in Western Europe, achieved the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating, becoming a pioneer in the region. This IHG project, built to Passivhaus standards with SCS, incorporates ultra-low carbon methods, Solarlab vertical photovoltaic panels, and 100% electric operations. It won ‘Green Building Project of the Year’ at the edie Net Zero Awards 2025. Completed by RED Construction Group, it aims to aid the hotel industry in reaching net zero by 2050.

Clermont Hotel Group appoints five internal GMs

🏨 Clermont Hotel Group has appointed Natasha Ludlow, Michael Hedges, Parik Zala, Dries Gadeyne, and Akhilesh Gupta as general managers across its 14-hotel portfolio. Last year, the group's training hours increased by 140% to 48,000 at The Academy. Ludlow will manage The Royal Horseguards, while Hedges and Zala will manage The Clermont Victoria and Charing Cross respectively. Gadeyne and Gupta are now overseeing Thistle Holborn, Bloomsbury Park, Thistle London Heathrow Terminal 5, and Thistle Express Luton.

Timeless Collection acquires Stoke Rochford Hall

🏨 The Timeless Collection of LSG Holdings acquired the 28-acre Stoke Rochford Hall estate in Lincolnshire. Built in 1843 by William Burn, the Grade I listed manor underwent restoration after a 2005 fire. The property includes 110 en-suite bedrooms, a conference center for 300 delegates, a leisure club, and a Grade II-listed obelisk. The sale was a 999-year long-leasehold interest asset sale. Patrick Leoni Sceti, of Timeless Collection, and Peter Brunt, of Colliers, highlighted its historic and modern appeal.

IHG profits jump 13% to $1.3bn amid ‘record’ hotel openings

📈 IHG Hotels and Resorts reported a 13% rise in operating profits to $1.3bn for 2025, opening 443 hotels with 65,100 rooms. RevPAR increased by 1.5%, with a 4.6% rise in EMEAA regions countering a 1.6% drop in Greater China. Net debt rose by $551m to $2.5bn, and the company launched a new premium brand, Noted Collection. A $950m share buyback program is authorized for 2026, aiming for a $5bn cumulative return over five years.
