Hotel carbon emissions ‘five times higher’ than previously thought, new Bob W measurement tool finds
🚧 Bob W's Sustainability Report indicates hotel carbon emissions are five times higher than estimated. In London, on February 3rd, 2025, Bob W and Furthr introduced 'LEGIT' to assess true environmental impact. HCMI's per-night emissions data used by 30,000 operators—including Hyatt and Marriott—is eclipsed by LEGIT's comprehensive assessment, which considers construction materials, cleaning, toiletries, and waste, revealing a 419% higher carbon footprint than HCMI's for Bob W's properties. An example is Koti Katajanokka in Finland, where emissions jumped from 1.48 to 19.7 kgCO₂e/night with LEGIT. Bob W, the first climate-neutral hospitality provider in 2021, aims for net-zero by 2050 and reported a 90% increase in GHG emissions in 2023, due to a 200% portfolio expansion. They encourage industry collaboration for sustainability.
