Lake Placid, NY – July 2026 / NewsmakerAlert: BoardRoom magazine, in partnership with Forbes Travel Guide, is proud to announce that Whiteface Club and Resort has earned the prestigious Distinguished Golf Destination Designation with Exceptional status, The Hallmark of Excellence for a golf course. This merit-based designation recognizes exceptional golf courses that exceed expectations in the quality of service and amenities, facilities, and most importantly the teamwork of the staff and management.
“Excellence is not an act but a habit, and Whiteface Club and Resort has made excellence a habit in every aspect of their facility,” said John Fornaro, Publisher and Co-Founder of BoardRoom. “Congratulations to Tracey Brooks and her entire team on their remarkable achievement in demonstrating exceptional governance, providing an outstanding golf experience, and maintaining high-quality facilities. Your hard work and commitment have truly set a benchmark for others to follow and exemplifies what a Distinguished Golf Destination is.”
Developed by industry leaders, BoardRoom magazine and Forbes Travel Guide, the Distinguished Golf Destinations designation is the most prestigious and valuable accolade a resort, semi-private, daily fee or public golf course can achieve. The Distinguished Golf Destinations program is not a popularity contest where industry insiders simply decide who makes the cut behind the scenes. Instead, Distinguished Golf Destination status is earned through a process where every aspect of your facilities, course(s), and operation is evaluated against the most important of all measures: Golf Experience.
“We are deeply humbled and honored to receive this designation, and I am incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support of our course, team, and community,” said Tracey Brooks, CEO, Whiteface Companies. “This milestone is a true testament to the daily dedication of our team and the wonderful community that makes Whiteface Club and Resort so special.”
On the golf course, which was designed by John Van Kleek and later enhanced by Walter Hagen, the process started in 2004 when superintendent Mike Sabatini was hired to create this exceptional on-course experience.
“I am genuinely thrilled and deeply moved by this incredible honor,” said Sabatini. “When I started here 22 years ago, I was asked to make this property come to life, and I answered with ‘absolutely.’ Since then, I’ve been dedicated to making this course more challenging, lush, and dynamically designed from tee to green. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our incredible team and having access to the right equipment to get the job done. This recognition truly feels like a crowning achievement—a testament to what happens when you commit decades to perfecting every square inch of a golf course.”
To enhance this Upstate New York golf experience, which dates back 131 years, the Whiteface Club collaborates with its sister property, the AAA Four Diamond rated Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa to offer an upscale Lake Placid stay and play package. Luxury Adirondack accommodations are combined with unlimited golf. Only the golf cart is charged on replays.
At the Whiteface Club, the golf experience is made complete with a variety of features, starting with custom-made homes, built exclusively by the club’s own team, that have created the Adirondacks quintessential resort community.
There are spectacular wedding gardens overlooking Lake Placid lake, available to all, with Whiteface Mountain as a veritable ceremony witness in the background.
On the dining front, Café on the Green awaits the completion of your round with many golfers delights adjacent to the 18th green as well as nightly happy hours from 4-6 PM. If you desire a special ambiance for your culinary experience, dinner is served at the Moose Lodge Boathouse on the shore of Lake Placid. Both eateries offer indoor and outdoor settings.
In summertime, guests can make use of the marina and paddle activities; tennis players in the family can serve and volley on five Har-Tru courts and two state of the art clay pickle ball courts.
On the other side of the calendar, cross-country skiers enjoy cruising 15 kilometers (over nine miles) of groomed terrain on the golf course.
While there is a sense of seclusion and privacy at the Whiteface Club and Resort, in this community, one is never far from anything. Whiteface Club is just a three-mile drive from Main Street in Lake Placid and the magnificent Olympic Legacy Sites just beyond Main Street.
