I’ve touched on this subject before, but the sheer velocity of recent developments demands we return to the table. We are witnessing something truly remarkable: technology finally catching up with the human voice.
In the grand scheme of things, I’m really not that old. Yet my journey in hospitality technology began in an era dominated by manual typewriters, back when plenty of hotels operated quite comfortably without a Property Management System anywhere in sight. To look at today’s sprawling, hyper-connected industry ecosystem against that humble backdrop is simply mind-blowing. It has all happened in what is essentially the blink of an eye.
Over those decades, I managed to teach myself to type reasonably well on a mechanical QWERTY keyboard, eventually migrating to physical mobiles and glass touchscreens. It’s living proof that young, middle-aged, and older dogs can indeed learn new tricks when forced to adapt to evolving interfaces.
But now, technology has finally caught up with our most fundamental human trick: the art of speech.
The sheer joy of being able to converse with technology in a natural, two-way dialogue—seamlessly crossing languages in real time—represents a major moment of enlightenment. This is the Red Sea parting in the human relationship with technology. It completely dismantles the old barriers of user interfaces and digital literacy, opening the wonders of computing to everyone on Earth, regardless of technical background. We spent forty years learning how to talk to machines; now, the machines have finally learned how to talk with us.
If we’ve reached this incredible meeting of two entities within a single career span, you really have to stop and wonder what the next ten years will yield. Fasten your seatbelts.
Life is so tech. Speak to me!
