IHG Signs Agreement to Open Second Holiday Inn Express in Japan, First in Hokkaido, by July 2026

🏨 IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino in Japan, slated for July 2026. The 223-room hotel, located in Hokkaido, is being developed with Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development, Tokyo Tatemono, and The Sankei Building. The hotel will feature Generation 5 design and facilities like an Express Café and fitness center. IHG has 59 hotels in Japan and 24 more in development, with all 2026 openings being conversions.

Luna, built between 1865-1871, and Lyra, a 20th-century home, share historical charm with modern amenities, including plunge pools and chef’s kitchens. This launch brings Dear Valentine’s city presence to seven properties.

U.S. Hotel Construction Pipeline Reaches 6,020 Projects, 705,825 Rooms in Q1 2026, Reports Lodging Econometrics

🏨 Q1 2026, USA: According to Lodging Econometrics, the U.S. hotel construction pipeline included 6,020 projects and 705,825 rooms. Currently under construction are 1,071 projects with 132,016 rooms. Luxury segment projects rose 16% to 102 projects (25,527 rooms). Q1 saw 140 projects (15,546 rooms) start and 126 hotels (14,614 rooms) open. By 2026's end, 682 hotels with 77,323 rooms are projected, up 1.4% in supply, with 750 hotels (81,199 rooms) expected in 2027.
