Four Keys to Making Life Easier for Hotel Revenue Managers

  • Anders Johansson
  • 7 January 2025
💸 Hotel revenue managers face constant changes, including competitors lowering rates and unpredictable guest booking patterns, impacting productivity and morale. A new approach structured around four key pillars—Streamline, Clarity, Confidence, and Freedom—is suggested to transform their work, increasing productivity and improving the hotel's bottom line. Streamlining involves consolidating tools into one platform and automating tasks. Clarity refers to defining revenue goals and creating a roadmap. Confidence is built on data-backed decision-making and cross-departmental collaboration. Freedom explores new revenue streams beyond rooms. Embracing these principles can steer the role of revenue managers from reactive to proactive, contributing to the industry's future.

See the future with the 2025 Hospitality Outlook

  • Tom Brown1
  • 6 January 2025
📢 In 2024, the hotel industry’s RevPAR grew 3-4% with occupancy rates nearing pre-pandemic levels. The 2025 outlook suggests AI will enhance guest experiences by analyzing data for actionable insights. Hotel Oderberger in Berlin handles 97% of 4,000 monthly guest queries with a chatbot, improving staff productivity. Direct bookings are expected to become over 50% of the distribution mix by 2030, challenging OTAs. Hospitality brands diversify portfolios; for instance, Marriott's luxury branded residences constitute 8% of its portfolio. Non-room revenue streams contribute approximately 25% to a hotel’s total revenue.

Travel Tech Essentialist #165: Person, Inc.

  • Mauricio Prieto
  • 5 January 2025
📣 Tech leadership is increasingly personal with CEOs becoming brand faces; Elon Musk's approach with Tesla is a prime example. Travel tech stocks, led by OTAs, surged since 2023 due to strong travel demand, per AGC Partners' report. Hospitality dominated 2024's Travel M&A at 39%, with PMS/Operations being most targeted. Strategic buyers, holding billions in cash, made 38% of 2024 acquisitions, with active buyers including HomeToGo and Amex. Airbnb's CEO Brian Chesky stands out in travel with effective social media use, vastly outperforming corporate accounts. Meanwhile, the EU's Digital Markets Act is criticized for favoring Booking.com over Google, impacting direct hotel bookings.

Rethinking Hospitality: Bold Moves for 2025 and Beyond – Matthias Huettebraeuker

  • Josiah Mackenzie
  • 2 January 2025
🔔 Matthias entered the hospitality industry 20 years ago, after a 10-year career in creative agencies. He joined at a time when pioneers like Ian Schrager, André Balazs, Claus Sendlinger, Alex Calderwood, and Nick Jones were revolutionizing the sector. Hospitality was moving towards consumer branding, focusing on experience, community, and local integration. Matthias cites citizenM's innovative approach to hotel construction and operation as a game-changer. He emphasizes the importance of differentiation through experience rather than price, advising hotels to be bold and stay true to their values in order to attract guests. Successful examples include Michelberger Hotel in Berlin and Ett Hem in Stockholm, both prioritizing locality and intimacy. Matthias also suggests looking beyond traditional hotel models to provide service real estate on demand, catering to various needs such as workspace and social areas. He points to the automotive industry's shift from selling cars to providing mobility as a useful parallel for hospitality's need to innovate.

The Only 4 Processes That Truly Matter in Hotel Management

  • Anders Johansson
  • 2 January 2025
🔔 Critical processes in hotel management include attracting guests, preparing guest experiences, delivering services, and gathering feedback for continuous improvement. To attract guests, hotels target specific demographics, utilizing SEO, social media, email campaigns, PR, and OTA management. Pre-arrival communications, preference collection, upselling, and arrival coordination are key to preparing guests. Delivering exceptional experiences involves check-in, service delivery, problem resolution, and creating special moments. Post-stay, hotels collect guest feedback, analyze it, and make improvements. Challenges include standing out in a crowded market, balancing personalization with efficiency, and maintaining service quality during peak periods. Automation aids in this cycle with tools like CRMs and AI-driven forecasting. Continuous improvement is achieved by acting on guest and staff insights, fostering a culture of excellence.
